This summer I had the pleasure to go to British Guyana! It has always been a dream for me, as I am a South American fanatic and determined to see every piece of it. Guyana is a severly underdeveloped country and has absolutely zero infrastructure for tourism. It is located just East of Venezuela, was colonized by the British, however the population now days is mixed mostly with Indian and African decent and the rare Indigenous.
Religion is so random and fascinating as well.. There are the ubiquitous Hindu temples, Christian Churches, Mosques and many more denominations.. I do not hesitate to say that I have rarely seen such a diverse country get along so harmoniously.
I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the country, as I went with Guyana Watch Guyana Watch is a US based non-profit, which brings in a team of doctors and dentists every year to give free medicine and care to the general population.
I had the pleasure to be document the cause with my camera and was accompanied by 12 doctors as well as support staff. We went to a different town everyday, often treating 700+ patients in one day!
There are no words to describe the experience! I tear up just thinking about it. To know that I was a part of such a generous mission, as well as the fact that my photos will contribute to the cause makes me happy!
